Join Sarah and Ty Powers for 6 days of silent inward drawn practice on the banks of the river Auvézère at the lovely Moulin de Chaves retreat center in the Dordogne region of southwest France. Grounded in the Buddhist practice of Insight Meditation, or Vipassana, Le Moulin hosts retreats in both the Buddhist tradition and other various contemporary approaches to awakening.Sarah will give teachings on Insight Yoga, our practice for this retreat. It is a body/mind yogic path of awareness that creates a regular vehicle for insights to occur and deepen. It draws from the wisdom of Yoga, Buddhism, Chinese Medicine and Transpersonal Psychology. Insight Yoga involves 4 main quadrants of development that are each interdependent: the body, the heart, the mind, and relationships.
For the body we engage in a regular active and receptive (or Yin/Yang) asana practice that is designed to develop and maintain pliancy in the muscles as well as the joints, to increase strength and vitality in all the systems of the body, and to cultivate a sensitivity to, and a re-balancing and refinement of the energy body- the gateway to the experience of an ease of being. Mind Training involves meditation practices of concentration, contemplation and open awareness, drawing often from Buddhist Mindfulness.
For the heart, or development of emotional intelligence and authenticity, we engage in awareness practices that hold and help heal the wounded heart. We are learning to open to and at times dialogue with emotional patterns of reactivity, often uncovering hidden insights and gifts that can blossom into genuine self-love and compassion, causing the natural release of self constructs and compensatory strategies of armoring.
Learning to maintain a connection to our body, heart and mind- states when in relationships is probably the most challenging aspect of all. Relational Awareness practices foster kindness, deep listening, meaningful exchanges, unfabricated compassion, and learning to appropriately trust and reveal vulnerabilities with others. Practices include generating loving-kindness and empathy, as well as engaging in contemplative dialogues with others on specific subjects.
Each full day of this retreat will include aspects of all four features of Insight Yoga, offering people an opportunity for deepening their connection with and insights into themselves and others. To deepen the contemplative atmosphere, silence will be sustained outside the practice sessions. Please read Sarah’s book Insight Yoga and practice with one of her dvds before attending.
